The University of Pittsburgh School of Business is seeking an Academic Advisor to support undergraduate business students. Academic Advisors work within the Tafel Center for Student Success and play a critical role in the success and satisfaction of undergraduate students.
The Academic Advisor assists students with identifying their long-term goals and career plans and making educational plans to help them achieve their goals. The work consists of meeting with students to support them with scheduling, understanding degree requirements for graduation and the academic policies and procedures of the School. Advisors play a key role in connecting students with resources.
The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The work requires maintaining student files and updating databases. Accuracy in review of a student's grades, progress to degree and similar requirements is critical to success in the position. The successful candidate will also have strong communication skills with ability to provide information through verbal and written communication.

Utilizes basic advising knowledge, theory, and practical experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Manages small, routine projects.
Essential Functions
• Individual will serve as an Academic Advisor for undergraduate students in the University of Pittsburgh School of Business. Approximately 85% of the individual's time will be devoted to academic and career advising; approximately 15% of the individual's time will be devoted to other duties as assigned, special projects, and professional development. Advising responsibilities will include meeting with undergraduates in the School of Business and responding to inquiries of students enrolled in the Business minor. In addition, the advisor will respond to questions regarding the Undergraduate Certificate in Fundamentals of Business Management raised by advisors in Dietrich, Public Health and SCI. The advisor is responsible for meeting with students several times each year to help them create academic plans, register for classes, and to review general information about degree requirements. The advisor will discuss and facilitate career-related work experiences (in the context of the student's development as a business professional), internships, resume development, study abroad plans, and to address any other issues that affect a student's academic performance and career goals.
