Description
Position: Academic Support Coach for the Direct Support Professional Pathway(Grant funded up to 29 hours a week)
The Academic Support Coach for the Direct Support Professional Pathway is a part-time and grant funded position through the Direct Support Professional grant through SUNY and the NY State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities. This position works with the Workforce Innovation department and reports to the Enrollment and Academic Success Coach, with a dotted line to the Director of Workforce Innovation and Industry Partnerships and the Dean of Career and Workforce Innovation. As an expectation of this grant, this position is responsible for supporting all students enrolled in the DSP micro-credentials academically. This includes writing support, especially for the badging process through the National Association of Direct Support Professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Enrollment and Academic Success Coach and faculty to support all DSP micro-credential students.
- Meet with all DSP micro-credential students at least twice a semester.
- Review drafts of NASP badge writing before students submit officially through NADSP.
- Attend recruitment events throughout Rockland County and the Hudson Valley region along with the Enrollment and Academic Success Coach.
- Conduct in-person and virtual meetings with students.
- Support students through the NADSP badging process, and the enrollment and completion of the DSP micro-credentials.
- Assist students academically in all of the DSP micro-credentials.
- Track and write summaries/notes of the students met with each semester.
- Contribute to the tracking and reporting of metrics for the DSP grant.
- Attend training and professional development sessions and workshops related to the DSP grant, academic support, and holistic advising.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- An associate's degree required, and bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience with NADSP badging and associated requirements
- General experience with tutoring, mentorship, and/or advising
- At least 1-2 years working in a community college setting, or in an agency with DSP professionals
- Background working with diverse communities, adult learners, and/or human services and direct care professionals
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective communication skills
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a team
Starting Salary: $25.00 - $27.00 hour
