Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of English and Philosophy at Wheaton College in Massachusetts invites applicants for an adjunct faculty appointment to teach two courses in African American Literature and Culture for the Spring 2026 academic year. These courses will contribute to the English and Creative Writing majors, as well as the African Diaspora Studies (AFDS) minor at Wheaton.
Possible course topics may include:
- African American Literature and Culture
- Harlem Renaissance
- Caribbean Literature and Culture

A PhD in English or related field is preferred, though we will consider candidates who are ABD.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The per course salary for this position is $5,000.
