Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Senior Analyst, Payroll provides advanced functional support for the organization's automated payroll systems and processes. The Senior Analyst serves as a key liaison between the Office of Human Resources (OHR) Payroll department and the Office of Technology Services (OTS) to streamline workflows, implement system efficiencies, resolve functional and technical issues, and lead efforts to diagnose and resolve system errors to ensure optimal system performance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Reviews and analyzes payroll processes, system functionality, and workflow efficiency; recommends and implements enhancements to support automation and minimize manual intervention
- Collaborates with OTS and other key stakeholders to develop, test, and deploy system improvements, ensuring alignment with operational and compliance requirements
- Collaborates with other OHR departments to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in HR processes
- Provides subject matter expertise for ongoing payroll production activities, system enhancements, and major system upgrades, including configuration and validation tasks
- Leads the identification, research, and resolution of payroll system errors, ensuring timely correction and prevention of recurring issues
- Creates, reviews, and validates payroll audit reports and reconciliations for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements
- Conducts data integrity audits between HCM, FSM, and payroll outputs to ensure accurate calculations and reporting
- Develops, maintains, and executes queries and reports to extract payroll data from HCM, supporting analysis, troubleshooting, and decision-making
- Designs and delivers training, documentation, and support to internal stakeholders on payroll processes, system functionality, enhancements, and best practices
- Represents the department on cross-functional committees and working groups, ensuring departmental needs are met while upholding payroll accuracy, data integrity, and compliance standards
- Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM system modules
- Knowledge of SQL, various databases and other technical applications
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team with OTS, Payroll, HR and Division Operations Managers
- Ability to be flexible to changing priorities
- Ability to respond to problems and identify solutions
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as classrooms, offices, meeting and training rooms, and libraries, College-owned vehicles. This requires use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in higher education
- Experience using PeopleSoft
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or higher
Salary
Hiring salary range is: $72,821 - $83,744
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer. The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
