Job Description:
Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)
Salary: $58,000 - $65,000
The Assistant Director, Career Access and Engagement, will lead initiatives to support the career readiness and professional development of all Binghamton University students. This position is highly student-facing and focuses on strategic career engagement across campus through meaningful campus partnerships.
Career Engagement and Co-Curricular Strategy:
This role provides strategic leadership for career development outside of the classroom, expanding student access through campus systems and co-curricular partnerships. The Assistant Director will create high-impact, scalable initiatives that go beyond one-off programming and ensure career development is embedded in key student environments. This will be a highly collaborative role focused on strategic integration with campus partners that is informed by Fleishman Career Center engagement data. This position will also support their colleagues in the Fleishman Career Center with the strategy around the scalability of career development within co-curricular experiences and campus partnerships.
Specific partnerships this role will lead include:
- Residential Life- The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with Residential Life staff, collegiate professors, and Residential Student Engagement Specialists (split graduate-level live-in positions between Fleishman Career Center and Residential Life) to provide tailored outreach, programming, and consulting availability within the residential communities. This position's office will be located centrally within the College-in-the-Woods residential community to serve students where they are.
- Athletics- This position will also serve as the liaison to Binghamton University Athletics, providing tailored programming and opportunities to connect with employers and alumni. Additionally, this position will support efforts to increase students' access to experiential learning opportunities.
- Student Association- The Assistant Director will work closely with the Student Association at Binghamton to identify ways to partner and integrate career development into the co-curricular experience.
Core Responsibilities:
- Set goals and provide leadership for key campus relationships in Residential Life, Athletics, and the Student Association
- Create a co-curricular strategy and scalable campus partnerships that engage students in meaningful ways in collaboration with colleagues in the Fleishman Career Center
- Provide 1:1 consulting appointments, including supporting drop-in services in the main center space
- Supervise the Residential Student Engagement Specialists (2), the Student Career Influencers intern positions (2-4). This includes interviewing and hiring the team, assigning workloads, developing outreach and programmatic strategies, and completing evaluations as needed.
The Assistant Director will take on additional supervision of staff as the position moves forward. There will be expectations to teach one of the Fleishman Career Center career courses at least once per year and to provide support to transfer students as needed.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in higher education or a related field (a Master's degree is required to teach the career courses)
- 4+ years of experience in career services or related functional area
- Experience developing programs, scaling services, and building partnerships
- Strategic thinker, with the ability to brainstorm and collaborate with a team to develop long-term strategies that support the success of Binghamton University students
- Ability to work independently and creatively to create and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with students, employers, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write compelling career education content that engages the reader
- Value campus collaboration, high ethical standards, and dedication to what is best for students, employers, and Binghamton University
- The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred:
- Experience supervising professional staff, student staff or paraprofessional staff
- Knowledge and interest in navigating campus systems and co-curricular student experiences
- Knowledge of student development and career development theories
- Knowledge of career management and higher education systems, such as Handshake, uConnect, Brightspace
