Description
DescriptionThe School of Aviation in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for one Assistant Instructor/Assistant Lecturer position. Effective date of appointment is January 1, 2026. This is a 4.5-month, term, non-tenure track appointment. Applications are continually evaluated throughout the process, with the first review beginning December 1, 2025. This position will support the baccalaureate degree in Aviation Technologies developed to prepare Aviation technicians with advanced technical skills.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
Teaching responsibilities typically, teach 2 courses. include instruction in the FAA-approved Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant curriculum; maintaining class records as required by SIU Carbondale and FAA; participation in program/department support activities; perform maintenance on laboratory equipment; other assignments as determined by School Director. To attend department meetings as required. Support and positively contribute to SIU's mission of student success and retention through actions and responsibilities within this role. To engage in other assignments as determined by the school director.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Possess a valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings, a minimum of three years of industry experience in aviation maintenance or related field, and at least one degree in an aviation related discipline. For assistant instructor an earned Bachelor's degree. For Assistant lecturer an earned Master's degree.
Preferred Qualifications: Earned doctorate. Successful post-secondary teaching experience in aircraft maintenance and/or product support. Demonstrated history of scholarly productivity in Aviation Technologies or related fields.
R equired Documents: Submit a letter of application, CV, research interests , FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings, and three references .
