Job Description:

The Department of Comparative Literature seeks an assistant or associate professor working at the intersection of literature and philosophy of the 20th and 21st centuries. Specialization is open, but with a preference for candidates with strong backgrounds in the history of philosophy and in the theoretical traditions that animate the field of Comparative Literature. Candidates should conduct research that specifically addresses the relation(s) between literature and philosophy/theory and be capable of teaching graduate and undergraduate seminars on these relations with regard to both historical contexts and contemporary applications. The successful candidate will also teach introductory courses in their literature(s) of choice. Areas of specialization include but are not limited to:

• ecocriticism
• natural/fictional/virtual worlds
• global literary theories
• posthumanism
• ethics and aesthetics

The successful candidate will contribute to the expansion of the department's doctoral track in Literature, Philosophy and the Theory of Criticism (PLC).

Teaching load 2/2, including 1 graduate seminar. Salary competitive.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• PhD by August 16, 2027
• Research that addresses the relation between literature and philosophy/theory
• Evidence of working proficiency in a research language
• Evidence of an active research agenda

Preferred Qualifications:

• A comparatist background
• Experience teaching in an inclusive environment with diverse students
