- Assistant Professor, Exercise Sciences
Description
Expected to begin Fall 2026, this tenure-track position seeks a collaborative educator to
teach undergraduate and graduate Exercise Science courses and participate in institutional service, including
student advising. The successful candidate will join the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, where
the Fitness & Wellness Leadership (FWL) major offers students a strong foundation in disciplinary content,
hands-on personal training experiences, and opportunities for business, management, and clinical rotations at
both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The department is housed within the School of Education, Health,
and Human Services, which is dedicated to preparing students for successful entry into their chosen professions.
The program emphasizes ethical approaches to human well-being, critical thinking, and the practical application
of knowledge. As SUNY Plattsburgh serves a diverse student population and is committed to providing

Requirements
Earned doctoral degree in a relevant field. ABDs will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant’s defense of their dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment. A successful ABD applicant will receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following the award of the terminal degree. An ABD will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum).
Record of an active program of scholarly and professional activity, including research, publications, and/or participation in professional organizations and a demonstrated willingness and ability to continue this work
Demonstrated experience teaching core Exercise Science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (e.g., Exercise Physiology, Exercise Prescription, Kinesiology, and related areas)
Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and graduate Exercise Science courses in both in-person and online modalities
Experience contributing to curriculum development and program improvement
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators
