Additional teaching experience in higher education settings and/or online teaching is preferred.Required License/Registration/CertificationN/AJob SummaryThe School of Art and Visual Studies at the University of Kentucky seeks applications for a full-time, regular title series, 9-month tenure eligible Assistant Professor in Art Education to begin August 2026. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester in Art Education as well as mentor both undergraduate and graduate Art Education students through supervision of student teaching and independent studies. Additionally, the hired faculty will be part of the team overseeing curriculum development and administrative work for the growing BA in Art Education, the new online MA in Art Education, and future Art Education programs. They will also be expected to provide appropriate service to the school, college, and university.
We seek a productive scholar and effective teacher specializing in one or more of the following: community-based art education, new media technologies in the making and teaching of visual art, and/or disability studies in art education. The expertise of the successful candidate will balance critical theory and pragmatic pedagogy within their research, teaching, and creative practice.Through this praxis, the candidate will develop new upper-division courses in alignment with their research interests and Art Education programmatic needs. The successful candidate will work with current faculty to actively develop an interdisciplinary art education program that stresses innovation in research and teaching. Projected distribution of effort is 50% teaching, 40% creative activity/research, and 10% service.
Candidates must hold a terminal degree by the time of employment. A minimum of three years of teaching experience in a K-12 art education classroom is required. Additional teaching experience in higher education settings and/or online teaching is preferred.
