Position Summary
The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia (https://www.rom.uga.edu) invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Italian to begin August 1, 2026. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, teach two courses per semester, and mentor undergraduate students and graduate student research. Our faculty are expected to serve on departmental committees and support recruitment to our programs, which include majors, minors, and study abroad opportunities.
Additional Requirements
All candidates must have Native/Near-native competency in Italian and English.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Demonstrated evidence leading a minimum of one study abroad program or participating in one short-term faculty-led international programs, with documented instructional or administrative responsibilities. Evidence of teaching at least two courses in Italian for the professions or professionally oriented Italian-language instruction.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
We seek an innovative and versatile colleague whose research and teaching interests complement those of our current faculty. Preference will be given to candidates who focus on modern and/or contemporary Italy but whose teaching of Italian culture is transhistorical and engages multiple periods, genres, disciplines, and/or media. We seek applicants who thrive in a collaborative environment and have proven success and/or interest in curricular development and program building at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Competitive applicants will display excellence in teaching and be eager to implement student-centered and interactive teaching approaches; possess a strong record or agenda of presenting and publishing research; and show an interest in communicating their scholarship both within and beyond our university.
