Position Information

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

Reporting to the Senior Director, the Associate Director produces high level student engagement initiatives with the intent of strengthening students' affinity for the University of Georgia. This position cultivates and maintains strong relationships with division and campus departments to help facilitate students' preparation for becoming young alumni and staying engaged with the institution post-graduation by organizing opportunities for students to connect with alumni and celebrate their time as students through UGA's many traditions. In addition, this position works in coordination with the Senior Director to strengthen student giving initiatives such as the Beat Week giving challenge, student participation in Dawg Day of Giving and the senior class giving campaign, Senior Signature. This position also manages the student donor stewardship efforts, and supports the successful alignment of the strategies, programs, and management of Affinity Councils and other campus volunteer groups.

Volunteer Management and Student Supervision
- Provide coaching and leadership for 50 volunteers of the Student Alumni Council; assist volunteer leaders in developing and implementing strategies to motivate and lead other student leaders/volunteers; communicate and manage volunteer needs for signature events and programs.
- Coordinate student volunteer recruitment and training.
- Meet regularly with volunteers, including 1-on-1 meetings and all weekly council meetings.
- Oversee the day-to-day work of graduate and student staff member(s) reporting directly to this position.
- Develop performance initiatives and expectations for each student employee reporting directly to the position and provide mentoring and coaching during the duration of their employment.
Student Engagement Programming
- Oversee the strategic planning and implementation of events and initiatives with the focus of building students' affinity for the university by connecting students to UGA alumni and its various traditions. Events include, but are not limited to Dialogue with a Dawg, UGA Founders Day Celebration, the UGA Ring Tradition, and participation in UGA Homecoming.
- In coordination with the Senior Director, plan and execute Freshman Welcome, UGA's signature new student welcome event.
- Plan and oversee the student involvement with UGA and the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) sponsored student engagement events and initiatives such as Commencement, UGA Career Fairs, and others assigned by the Senior Director.
Student Philanthropic Engagement
- Manage a portfolio of signature student initiatives that strategically engage students across all classes, educating them about the importance of philanthropic engagement with the institution, connecting students to philanthropically engaged alumni, and strengthening students' philanthropic commitment with the University; such events and initiatives include, but are not limited to, the Beat Week giving challenge, student participation in Dawg Day of Giving, and providing additional support to the Senior Director for Senior Signature, the senior class giving campaign.
- Plan and oversee Student Engagement involvement with University and DAR sponsored philanthropic events and initiatives such as Thank a Donor Day, and others assigned by the Senior Director.
Support and Administration
- Regularly update the Giving and Alumni Information Link (GAIL) system with interactions and notes regarding alumni and student contact.
- Assist in budget oversight by managing specific events and program budgets.
- Support in the hiring, training, supervision, and development of student assistants.
- Provide support to the Senior Director, helping to engage committee members of the UGA Alumni Board of Directors.
- Provide additional support to affinity engagement opportunities where needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director.
Communication, Collaboration, and Campus Impact
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with DAR Communications, ensuring marketing efforts are established and executed to meet division, department, and program goals.
- In coordination with departmental and divisional colleagues, increase student participation in student engagement experiential and philanthropic engagement opportunities.
- In partnership with other Associate Directors, advance the mission of DAR by implementing a targeted outreach strategy to educate and engage influential student leaders through offices and organizations including, but not limited to student ambassadors of the UGA schools and colleges, the Office of Transition, the Office of New Student Orientation, the Center for Engagement, Leadership and Service, University Housing, Student Government Association (SGA), the Arch Society, Greek Life and other student affairs units.
- Support Alumni Association events as assigned including, but not limited to, 40 Under 40, Sky Suite, Bulldog 100, Alumni Leadership Assembly, and Alumni Awards Luncheon.
