Description
- Organize and plan for overall success of the UWA fishing program within the Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA).
- Monitor academic progress and support team members in achieving educational goals.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, academic success, safety, responsibility, and personal growth.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, year-round training plan that enhances anglers’ technical skills, competitive strategy, and knowledge of fisheries.
- Provide instruction in casting techniques, boat operation, electronics use (sonar, mapping, forward-facing sonar), tackle selection, pattern development, and tournament preparation.
- Plan and manage practice sessions and tournaments.
- Identify, recruit, and retain qualified student-athletes who demonstrate strong character, academic commitment, and competitive potential.
- Manage tournament registration, travel itineraries, lodging, meals, and logistics for multiple boats and anglers.
- Enforce safety standards for boating, towing, weather preparedness, and equipment handling.
- Provide training in boating safety, first aid basics, and emergency protocols.
- Ensure all anglers meet required certifications, waivers, and compliance checks.
- Manage budget operations for the program and fundraise as necessary.
- Initiate, coordinate, and participate in fundraising and community engagement activities.
- Organize camps and alumni events to engage the University community.
- Hire, train, and manage assistant and graduate assistant coaches.
- Assist with Financial Aid and eligibility matters for team members.
- Assist with other administrative duties as assigned by the University’s administration.
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
- 6 years’ experience in coaching competitive fishing.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability and desire to motivate members of the team to succeed academically.
- Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, coaching staff, students, and alumni.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of tournament operations, fisheries management, tackle systems, and boating/navigation.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends.
- College coaching and recruiting experience, preferably in the Southeastern U.S.
Desired:
- Master’s Degree.
