Description
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
Chief Education and Research Officer
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) seeks an experienced and highly effective medical educator, researcher, and leader to serve in the new role of Chief Education and Research Officer. This individual will oversee two interdigitated units of the organization that previously functioned as separate departments, and will collaboratively develop and implement a strategic plan for advancing the ACGME’s mission to improve graduate medical education (GME) and its accreditation. This work will be coordinated with the ACGME’s fundamental responsibility to assure the quality of GME in the United States by accrediting residency and fellowship programs and their Sponsoring Institutions. The Chief Education and Research Officer will also serve as executive sponsor for The Journal of Graduate Medical Education, which is published by the ACGME but retains editorial independence.
The successful candidate will bring a combination of relevant experience, qualifications, and personal attributes, along with a deep commitment to GME. The ACGME seeks an individual who has been an impactful medical education leader (ideally in GME), physician-educator, and education researcher. Outstanding communication, organizational, and team-building abilities – along with flexibility, creativity, data fluency, and management skills – are essential.
This is a full-time, hybrid position anticipated to require at least half-time presence at the ACGME office in Chicago, Illinois, and requiring national (and occasional international) travel.
A full position description is available here
Those interested are asked to send a letter of interest and Curriculum Vitae to staffing@acgme.org no later than November 7, 2025.
The ACGME is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
