Job Description:Primary Responsibility
Under the direction of the Recreation and Events Coordinator, the Climbing Wall Coordinator is responsible for ensuring safe and proper use of the climbing wall; opening and closing the climbing wall on a daily basis, and efficiently and effectively completing all tasks associated with managing the climbing wall. The Climbing Wall Coordinator is responsible for checking climbers in, ensuring all climbers are working within their skill/certification level, teaching belay classes, monitoring climbers/belayers in the climbing area and helping to create a positive and welcoming climbing environment. This position will assist in cleaning the climbing wall area including the wall, flooring and the holds. The Climbing Wall Coordinator assists other Field House staff to register customers for access and is knowledgeable about other Field House operations including memberships, liability waivers, services, equipment rentals, etc.
*This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC's workweek. CMC's workweek is Saturday through Friday.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. Examples may include a high school diploma/GED and 6 months of related experience and some previous indoor/outdoor climbing experience (professional or personal) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPR and First Aid Certification are required but can be acquired within 3 months of employment. A Wilderness First Aid/Wilderness First Responder Certification or higher is also accepted.
Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: Full understanding of all climbing gear being used and appropriate and effective utilization of this equipment. (i.e. commonly used knots, belay devices, etc.) Be a self-directed individual with a strong work ethic; possess a positive attitude, have the ability to thrive in adverse conditions and be competent to make important decisions; work well with others both one-on-one and groups; work independently towards established goals and deadlines; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn. Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism. Ability to enforce Field House policies. (i.e. not being afraid to approach a member for an infraction). General office skills: computer use, filing, typing, answering the phone, customer focus and attention to detail. Organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility, teamwork, and humor. Route setting experience or willingness to learn a plus.

The hiring pay rate is $19.83 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate's skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed, this will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:
Essential Duties
- Consistently uphold all Field House policies and procedures providing a safe and inclusive environment for patrons.
- Open and close the Field House/Climbing Wall on a daily basis ensuring safety inspections and cleaning duties are completed as assigned.
- Provide exceptional customer service at all times.
- Greet customers courteously, teach belay classes, monitor climbers/belayers in the climbing area and help to create a safe, positive, inclusive and welcoming climbing environment.
- Work in tandem with Recreation Assistant staff to ensure accurate tracking of and communication about member climbing certifications.
- Remain visible and approachable to customer questions, concerns, and complaints
- Be knowledgeable about Field House recreation/fitness programs and services such as membership sales, activity registrations, renting space or equipment, etc.
- Answer and direct customer inquiries, phone calls, etc.
- Maintain clean appearance of the climbing wall area including the wall, flooring and wall holds.
- Coordinate the maintenance of climbing equipment, including but not limited to, organization, cleaning, storing, and repairing equipment.
- Respond to incidents, injuries, and inappropriate behavior and report to supervisor accordingly.
- Understand and be able to follow the Emergency Action Plan response.
- Attend all staff training sessions, meetings, in-services, and shifts as scheduled.
- Assist with the set-up, clean-up, and supervision of special events that take place at the Field House.
- Consistently strive to give and receive feedback with co-workers and supervisor.
- Other duties assigned by the Recreation and Events Coordinator.

This position reports to the Recreation and Events Coordinator.
Supervisory Responsibility
Position has no supervisory responsibility.
Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
Working Conditions
This position requires occasional sitting, constant walking and standing, handling objects, frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard climbing wall equipment daily.
Position will be required to work evenings, weekends, events, and/or college breaks.
