DescriptionThe Executive Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership program at Southern Illinois University (SIU) seeks a dynamic and accomplished scholar-practitioner to serve as the Program Director. This individual will lead the program's strategic direction, operational success, and academic integrity, while shaping the development of future higher education leaders. The program is designed for working professionals aspiring to high-level administrative and executive roles in higher education and offers a hybrid learning model with courses delivered online and in Chicago.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic leader with an established record of research and scholarship to drive the mission and vision of the Executive Ed.D. program. The Program Director will provide strong leadership in the areas of curriculum development, faculty coordination, student engagement, and academic administration. They will also maintain an active research agenda that aligns with the program's goals of advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education. Must be able to be tenured at the Associate or Full Professor level. Review of applications will begin January 12 and continue until the position is filled.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
- Program Leadership and Administration:
- Oversee the daily operations of the Executive Ed.D. program, ensuring academic rigor and high standards of student achievement.
- Lead the strategic development and continuous improvement of the curriculum, with an emphasis on relevant, cutting-edge practices in higher education leadership.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of the program.
- Manage program delivery across multiple modalities: on-campus, online, and in Chicago.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the program and internal/external stakeholders, including university administrators, faculty, prospective students, and alumni.
- Recruit EdD candidates: including recruiting efforts, process application, and ensuring candidate review and admission to the program
- Program coordination for the master's degree in College Student Personnel .
- Leadership in Faculty and Curriculum Development:
- Recruit, mentor, and support faculty, ensuring they are equipped to deliver high-quality, research-driven courses that align with program goals.
- Provide guidance in developing and delivering courses, including the integration of innovative teaching methods, technology, and research in higher education leadership.
- Facilitate faculty professional development and promote scholarly collaboration across the program's academic community.
- Research and Scholarship:
- Maintain an active, sustainable research agenda related to higher education leadership, with an emphasis on contributing to the field's knowledge base and promoting the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Supervise and guide doctoral students in their dissertation research, supporting their development as scholars and practitioners.
- Lead and collaborate on externally funded research projects, with an emphasis on issues pertinent to leadership in higher education.
- Student Engagement and Support:
- Act as an academic advisor and mentor for students, helping them navigate the program and succeed in their academic and professional development.
- Lead dissertation committees and provide strategic direction in the development and completion of doctoral dissertations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with alumni, fostering an engaged community that enhances the reputation of the program.
- Strategic Planning and External Relations:
- Participate in the long-term strategic planning for the program, identifying opportunities for growth and development.
- Build and maintain relationships with key partners in higher education, government, and industry to promote the program and foster collaboration.
- Represent the program in national and international forums, enhancing its visibility and influence.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctoral Degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Higher Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
- Active and ongoing research agenda with a record of scholarly publications in higher education leadership, organizational development, or related fields, commensurate with expectations at an R1 research institution for a tenured associate or full professor.
- Significant experience in higher education leadership, including roles that have included policy development, strategic planning, and management of higher education programs.
- Experience leading dissertation committees and providing mentorship and academic support to doctoral students.
R equired Documents: Submit a letter of application, CV, current curriculum vitae (CV), statement of research interests, leadership philosophy , and three references .
