Description
Saint Louis University School of Law, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning,
research, and service, invites applications for the position of Director of the Vincent C. Immel Law
Library. The Director of the Law Library reports directly to the Dean of the School of Law. Policy
decisions concerning the Law Library are made by the Director of the Law Library, the Dean, and
the faculty. The Director of the Law Library is eligible for appointment as a member of the law
faculty with appropriate security of position.
The Director of the Law Library is generally responsible for all aspects of library operations. This
includes responsibility for long-term and short-term planning; the library budget, which is part of
the School of Law budget; collection development; compliance with accreditation standards of
the ABA; public services and government documents; and hiring and supervision of a staff of fulltime
and part-time professional librarians and support staff members. The Director also typically
will have teaching, service, scholarship, and/or administrative responsibilities. The Director will
collaborate with the Dean, other senior leaders, faculty, staff, and students to advance the School
of Law’s mission.
The Law Library’s collection contains approximately 755,000 titles, and the Law Library has a
budget of approximately $1.4 million. Although distinct from the University Libraries, the
Vincent C. Immel Law Library works cooperatively with the University Libraries and shares an
integrated library system. The Law Library participates in resource sharing and has been a leader
in the Mid-America Law Library Consortium (“MALLCO”) and MOBIUS. The Law Library also is a
participant in the Federal Depository Library Program and receives select resources from the
Government Publishing Office.
The School of Law has a diverse and engaged student body, faculty, and staff and a history of

community founded on the mutual support, friendship, openness, and accessibility that
characterizes the student-faculty relationship. The School of Law is located in the heart of the St.

Requirements
Applicants should have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited institution, a Master degree in Library
Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, and substantial experience
in a law library. Applications should include a cover letter, current CV, and a list of references,
