Position Summary:
The salary range for this position is $62,892.00 to $74,724.00, with most candidates starting at $62,892.00. This is a full-time, permanent, classified, overtime-eligible position with the Pierce College District and is eligible for up to two days of remote work per week after the probationary period. This position reports directly to the Director of Learning Resources and requires regular and consistent attendance. This position closes on 03/20/2026 at 5:00pm.
The District Writing Center Manager advances the equity-centered mission of Pierce College by providing multi-pronged, empathetic, and empowering support for students in their academic writing development. The District Writing Center is part of the Library and Learning Resources division, and the District Writing Center Manager operates under general direction of the Director of Learning Resources. The District Writing Center Manager is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising a team of student and professional (classified) writing tutors who work with students in a 1:1 capacity to develop their linguistic, rhetorical, and written communication strategies. The District Manager will work across campuses with staff and faculty develop college-wide awareness of equity, diversity, and inclusion issues related to academic writing, including an awareness of linguistic equity and translingual pedagogical strategies that support multilingual and multidialectal writers. The position will be responsible for supervising and coaching professional staff working in the Writing Center, providing professional development opportunities, developing an annual budget for approval by the division Dean, oversees the day-to-day processes in the Writing Center, and provides data and recommendations to help inform changes to policies or procedures within the Writing Center and the Library and Learning Resources division, to ensure equitable access and student satisfaction.
The successful candidate will lead a collaborative and dynamic team that provides holistic and culturally sustainable academic writing support that normalizes the idea of an academic learning network and helps to dismantle systemic and pedagogic disadvantages. The Writing Center works with numerous instructional and non-instructional student programs across the college, creating a community of support.

Requirements
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Linguistics, English, or a related field OR equivalent professional experience in Teaching, in a Writing Center, or in a comparable setting that demonstrates experience with the theories and practice of teaching English composition and/or ESL/Language acquisition/Linguistics. For a Bachelor's degree, the equivalent amount of professional experience is four (4) years.
Education to Experience Equivalences:
Associates Degree = 2 years | Bachelors Degree = 4 years | Masters Degree = 5 years
Required Experience:
- 1 year of experience in adult education, andragogy/pedagogy, the theories and practice of teaching English composition, and ESL/Language acquisition/linguistics.
- Experience supporting student academic writing development in a way that nurtures metacognition, confidence, agency, and empowerment.
- Experience working with students who have been marginalized/minoritized, including those who may be
- Economically disadvantaged, first-generation, and/or first time in college.
- Experience supervising peer educators, part-time staff, or volunteers.
- Experience utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, practices, and composition theories for academic writing development.
- Experience applying evidence-based best practices for student learning and motivation.
- Experience providing customer service to a diverse community in a fast-paced environment.
Special Requirements
- The incumbent will occasionally be required to travel between campuses and scheduled to work at either campus.
