Description
Job DescriptionLEHIGH UNIVERSITY invites applications from exceptionally innovative and experienced educators for a Teaching Associate Professor or Teaching Full Professor position (non-tenure track) who will play a leading role in advancing educational innovation and supporting excellence in disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching. A start date of July 1, 2026 is anticipated. This position is a renewable, fixed-term, non-tenure-track, full-time position. The initial term of appointment will be from three to five years.
This position is being created as part of Lehigh's strategic investment in innovative, student-centered and evidence-informed approaches to teaching across disciplines. Lehigh is an R1 research university that strongly values excellence in teaching. Lehigh has prioritized becoming a national leader in student outcomes through the development and implementation of innovative pedagogical approaches, course and curricular design, and adoption of learning technologies, including artificial intelligence tools, that ensure our educational practices continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of learners. Lehigh also seeks to develop and apply novel approaches for robust and efficient assessment of the effectiveness of innovative educational practices and programs. Faculty-led research on topics like teaching effectiveness and assessment techniques are also part of our strategic initiative on educational innovation.
Founded in 1865, Lehigh University has combined outstanding academic and learning opportunities with leadership in fostering innovative research. Recognized among the nation's R1 research universities, Lehigh offers a rigorous academic community for over 7,500 students. Lehigh University has approximately 5,800 undergraduates, 1,800 graduate students, and nearly 600 full-time faculty members. Lehigh has five colleges (College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Health and P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science), and is located in Bethlehem, PA, a vibrant and historic area. Over 840,000 people live in the Lehigh Valley, which is in close proximity to New York City and Philadelphia.
Lehigh University is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital or familial status, national origin (including shared ancestry), pregnancy or related conditions, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Lehigh University is committed to a culturally and intellectually diverse academic community and is especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching and/or service, to this mission. Lehigh University provides competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits, including domestic partner benefits, and supports faculty members' work/life balance.
Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or field-equivalent terminal degree by date of employment and have a strong demonstrated record of success in creating and implementing innovative approaches to teaching, innovative educational programs, and/or novel approaches to assessing student performance. Candidates must have five or more years of experience in teaching as instructors of record at the university level.
The individual hired will have a teaching-track faculty appointment in one or more of Lehigh's academic departments. They will be expected to teach a number of courses commensurate with the typical teaching assignment for senior teaching faculty in their college/department, playing a role in undergraduate teaching, and possibly teaching at the graduate level. While some teaching may be in online courses, presence on campus is required. The person hired into this position will also be expected to work with the Provost's Office and the Office of Educational Innovation and Assessment on projects related to faculty professional development and educational innovation.
Application Instructions
Review of applications will begin on 3/23/26 and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit their materials online.
Candidates should submit the following materials:
- Cover letter (1-2 pages)
- Curriculum vitae
- Teaching Statement. Applicants should submit a teaching statement (up to four pages) that articulates their instructional philosophy, describes the courses they currently teach and envision developing, and provides evidence of student-centered learning and evidence-informed teaching. This statement should offer a compelling picture of how the candidate has demonstrated innovative and high-quality university teaching, including how they design learning experiences, assess student outcomes and growth, and foster equitable and inclusive learning environments. The statement should also address the candidate's experiences of and plans for engaging with rapidly advancing AI tools, as well as any experiences developing educational programs or contributing to faculty professional development related to teaching.
- In addition to the four-page statement, applicants may include up to five double-spaced pages of supplementary materials that demonstrate innovative and effective teaching and learning practices, with links to online resources/information where appropriate.
- These may include, for example, novel learning activities or assignments, sample syllabi or curricular materials, instructional websites or software, videos illustrating teaching methods or showcasing student learning, student testimonials or other forms of feedback.
- Applicants are encouraged to be selective: supplemental materials should highlight quality and innovation, not quantity. All supplementary materials should be briefly described and contextualized in the cover letter, so reviewers understand their purpose and relevance.
- Please also submit a short statement (1 - 2 pages) on Contributions to Lehigh's Principles of Our Equitable Community that describes how your experiences, knowledge, and skills prepare you to effectively contribute to a learning and research community that holds these principles at its core (the Lehigh ADVANCE Center's guide for understanding and preparing such statements is available here).
Candidates under consideration will be asked for names and contact information for three references as the search progresses. Any inquiries regarding this search should be directed to Dominic Packer and Terry-Ann Jones, Chairs of the search committee, at djp208@lehigh.edu or tej320@lehigh.edu.
