Position Details:
Brite Divinity School, affiliated with Texas Christian University, invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track or tenure position in Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Care. Level of appointment for the position is at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The Ph.D. or equivalent is required. Teaching experience preferred. The appointment will commence on August 1, 2026. Demonstrated competence in teaching, scholarly research, and writing is expected. Teaching load is four courses per year at Masters and Doctoral levels (DMin). Teaching competencies required include constructive pastoral theology, aspects of care in intercultural, congregational, and/or public theological contexts. Additional competencies are expected in postcolonial, postmodern and qualitative methodologies and for engagement with a range of critical theories such as: race, gender, sexuality, and class. Brite Divinity School is a premier progressive institution in graduate theological education. Located on the campus of Texas Christian University (TCU), in Fort Worth, a growing city of one million people located in the nation's fourth largest metropolitan area, TCU provides Brite with an excellent research library of nearly 2 million books and all the amenities of a large university. Brite prepares leaders by focusing on excellent scholarship, pastoral training, and spiritual development through distinctive academic programs (Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry, Master of Theological Studies, Doctor of Ministry, and Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Interpretation). Academic offerings also include collaborative degrees in which the MBA can be earned through TCU's Neely School of Business, and MSW can be earned through TCU's Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Brite Divinity School's student body, faculty, and staff are a diverse community, including individuals who are multi-racial, multinational, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The community is also ecumenical, with over 20 different denominations represented in the student body and faculty and staff who are active members in more than 10 different denominational or religious bodies. The ecumenical spirit is also strengthened by Brite's membership and participation in the Council of Southwestern Theological Schools embracing 11 Protestant and three Roman Catholic institutions. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award masters and doctoral degrees, and the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), Brite Divinity School is one of four seminaries related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the denomination's only seminary related to a university.
