Description
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Department of Computational and Systems Biology (CSB) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor (appointment stream) in the area of systems genetics, focused on large-scale experimental measurement and computational analysis of the functional impacts of genetic variants in specific target genes and genomic regions associated with human disease. The role will require deep expertise in multiplexed readout of functional assays for variant clones and the analysis, including discovery of sequence-structure-function relationships and in deriving calibrated evidence to assist in clinical variant classification, and presentation and publication of such sequence-function maps and analyses. While the primary focus will be on research (including development of an externally-funded research program), the role will require some teaching and mentoring and service activities.
Experience and Training:
● Applicant should hold a PhD or MD/PhD with at least 5 years of post-PhD experience in a related field.
● Research expertise in the field of genetics, genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
● Research excellence demonstrated via a track record of publications in impactful field-specific journals
● Experience leading interdisciplinary work is critical, as is experience collaborating with structural biologists and computational biologists.
● At least three years of teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Position Responsibilities:
● Designing, planning, and executing research projects.
● Developing an independent externally-funded research program in the variant effect mapping field
● Liaising with collaborators and assisting in the compilation, analysis, and reporting of research findings to researchers within and outside of the program.
● Participate in teaching for educational programs at the high-school, undergraduate, and graduate levels
The University of Pittsburgh is an equal opportunity employer / disability / veteran.
