Job Summary/Basic Function:
Provide a broad range of services to support the College campus including; Maintenance of the College's grounds and athletic fields, trees, shrubs and plantings. Support events, waste management and recycling, facility maintenance by all trades, and other duties in support of college operations.
Under the supervision of the Trades manager and/or Grounds Supervisor, with oversight by the Director of Physical Plant; perform tasks & duties associated with the care and maintenance of the college's grounds and athletic fields and campus facilities. Sustain the high quality aesthetic appearance of lawns, trees and plantings, support of campus events, support of the college waste stream and recycling program. Assist trade departments in the maintenance, safety, servicing and repairs of College facilities as assigned. Complete other duties in support of college operations.

As needed to compliment contracted landscape and snow removal services. Perform the following as directed;
- Planting and care of trees, plants and flowers, mowing, weeding, edging, mulching, fertilizing, pruning, aerating and slice seeding, fall and spring clean-up, and other duties to keep the grounds attractive and well cared for. This is in support of contracted landscaping services.
- Supplemental care of grounds, stairs, and walkways during the winter season by keeping the campus accessible, safe and free of ice, snow and other hazards. This is in support of contracted snow removal of roadways and parking lots.
- Service athletic fields for practices, games, and other use requirements. Lining and preparation of fields, maintenance and other duties to support field use (natural and turf). If needed; perform mowing, fertilizing, aerating, slice seeding, sod replacement, and other duties to maintain a safe and play ready surface. Condition and maintain the artificial turf field, including snow removal from the turf.
- Maintain and operate equipment. Must be experienced with operating walk behind and ride-on lawn mowers, line trimmers, backpack blowers, aerators and slice seeders, trucks, tractors and other equipment. Maintain irrigation systems.
- Police the campus grounds for litter. Perform repairs and adjustments to machinery and hand-held equipment. Remove leaves and debris from stairwells, window and door wells, & storm drains. Pick up and properly dispose of solid waste and recycling materials. Clean and maintain outside furniture, umbrellas, benches, and hardscapes.
- Assist in maintaining the health and aesthetics of the campus pond. Maintain catch basins and storm water components. Maintain jogging paths for safe use.
- Exercise sound judgment when using equipment and chemicals, follow and use approved safety standards and precautions. Attend training programs as required.
- Respond to all requests, complaints and assignments in a professional, courteous and timely manner. Complete work order assignments individually and as a team member.
- Operate college vehicles and power equipment in a safe and reasonable manner.
- Required to work overtime in emergency situations (such as snow removal or storm clean-up operations), preparing for commencement and student move-in, and in support of special events and projects.
- Maintain and clean workspaces, mechanical spaces, vehicles and equipment.
- Perform general maintenance responsibilities in support of the paint shop, carpentry shop, Lock shop, HVAC shop, Plumbing shop, Building Services & Material Management or other trades as required. Assist other departments when requested to do so.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned, including furniture moves, changing lights, cleaning sink traps, general trades assistance and other work order assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the tools, equipment and operating procedures required to perform grounds maintenance, snow removal and light trades' maintenance.
- Ability to quickly attain a high level of performance and work with minimum supervision and direction and meet required deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, resolve problems and function as part of a team.
- Experience with computers, email, and ability to learn facility related systems. Individual must possess these knowledges, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
High School degree or equivalent. Minimum 1 to 3 years' experience in Grounds and Light Maintenance Industry or Higher Education. Required to work indoors and out of doors, and during inclement weather.
Must have a valid U.S. driver's license, safe driving record and successfully complete CORI/SORI background and driving background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prefer individual with valid Massachusetts pesticide applicator's license.
- Prefer individual with valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineers License.
- Mechanical proficiency preferred. Trades experience and licenses helpful.

The starting hourly rate for this position is $20/hr.

Physical Demands:
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods. Ability to lift, move and operate bulky equipment or materials weighing fifty to eighty pounds.
