Title: Intensive English Institute Instructor

General Summary: The Intensive English Institute is an innovative department that provides alternative approaches through competency-based learning, in the area of English as a second language.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct Teaching
- Provide instruction in-person using the Intensive English Institute methodology (a competency-based model with four-level sections) on campus beginning the first day of the semester and through final assessments
- Create a supportive learning environment utilizing current best practices and strategies for success
- Provide students with timely feedback and guidance for further learning
- Foster independent thinking, accuracy, and cooperative and collaborative learning
- Integrate the use of technology
- Remain dedicated to academic excellence and inclusivity, serving students of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning disabilities
- Meet or exceed requirements established in course descriptions, utilize course outlines from discipline, department, and MCC-established standards
- Prepare course syllabi, schedule of assignments, and lesson plans as outlined by the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Commission on English Language Programs Accreditation (CEA) standards
- Address and assess the Institutional Student Learning Outcomes (ISLOs), discipline-specific and program-specific outcomes for the courses, assess and document growth and learning
- Utilize and update current course LMS or electronic delivery of materials as needed
- Use principles of Universal Course Design (UCD)
Administrative Duties
- Maintain and submit student records according to college and department policies and procedures including, but not limited to attendance, grade book and class rosters, drop for non-attendance, mid-semester notices, and final grades
- Submit an electronic copy of syllabi to the department director each semester or in each instance of a material change, promptly complete timesheet, monitor college email communication, attend departmental meetings and in service training opportunities.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in English as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics, or TESOL with a minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience or Master's degree in Education with an English language teaching certificate in TESL or TEFL.
- Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. This includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
- Ability to inform and guide others by applying principles of professional counseling in addressing specific situations
- Ability to work collegially with team members
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory, and/or design data and information
- Ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems
- Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria
- Demonstrates a commitment to fostering a respectful, welcoming environment where individuals from varied backgrounds and perspectives can thrive
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Blackboard Ultra LMS, and PC
- College or high school-level teaching experience is strongly preferred both in-person and online
- Bilingual skills a plus
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $35.31 per hour with actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience in accordance with the provisions of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to the Bedford campus as needed
Hours: 25 per week, Monday-Thursday, 9:00 -2:00 with prep time included in the 25 hours
Expected Start Date: January 2026
