Description
Oroville School District is seeking a gifted leader to serve students, community, and staff in achieving district goals. Meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of each individual student is non-negotiable. District strategic plans provide for a systems approach to this end. A successful candidate will align collective beliefs, communication, and relationship building with vigilant action toward school and district goals. Oroville principals foster high expectations, data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, cultural competence, and strong PLC and RTI/MTSS leadership.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Creating a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff: Develops and sustains a shared mission and clear vision for improvement. Engages stakeholders in reflective practice. Facilitates collaborative processes leading toward continuous improvement. Creates opportunities for shared leadership. Nurtures a strong, positive building culture rooted in shared values, high expectations, and collective efficacy. Facilitates high-functioning PLCs grounded in collaboration and data-driven reflection.
2. Providing for school safety: Ensures physical, emotional, and intellectual safety for effective teaching and learning to take place.
3. Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of a data-driven plan for increasing student achievement: Develops multiple data sources and uses them to guide improvement efforts. Assists staff in applying data to instructional decisions and intervention planning. Ensures PLC teams examine student work, common assessments, and growth data to determine instructional next steps.
4. Assisting instructional staff with alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with learning goals: Ensures fidelity to curriculum, alignment to state and district goals, and implementation of best instructional practices.
5. Monitoring, assisting, and evaluating effective instruction and assessment practices: Actively involved in instructional design and supports staff in implementation. Participates in professional development and ensures alignment with district initiatives such as units of study and the district learning continuum.
6. Managing staff and fiscal resources: Manages human and fiscal resources transparently to build capacity and fulfill legal responsibilities. The management of hiring, assignments, evaluations, ongoing professional development and the fulfillment of legal responsibilities are required.
7. Partnering with the school community: Establishes genuine partnerships with families and community stakeholders aligned to shared values. Community engagement decisions are made that result in improved teaching and learning.
8. Demonstrating commitment to closing the achievement gap: Uses evidence to support student improvement, identifies barriers to learning, and implements strategies that close achievement gaps. Leads and sustains the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including academic and behavioral RTI structures, ensuring timely, targeted, and effective interventions. Facilitates high-functioning PLCs that use student data, common assessments, and student work to determine instructional next steps, intervention needs, and enrichment opportunities. Ensures PLC teams consistently apply the four guiding PLC questions and monitors progress toward eliminating gaps. Demonstrates measurable growth in student learning across all subgroups.
9. Leadership and Governance:
Consistently demonstrates high moral, ethical, and professional standards, addressing problems and issues in an open, honest, and timely manner. Upholds integrity not only by avoiding misconduct but by actively choosing actions that reflect what is right. Serves as a strong ambassador for the school and district, maintaining conduct—personally and among staff—that preserves a positive reputation for the school, the District, and the Board.
a. Models and promotes trust, enthusiasm, rapport, respect, and openness among faculty, staff, students, and community members, celebrating successes and recognizing the achievements of others.
b. Creates a professional work environment by ensuring that interactions among staff, families, community members, and the Board are conducted with the highest level of respect and professionalism.
c. Honors the ideas and perspectives of others, even in disagreement, and works collaboratively to resolve conflicts and achieve mutually respectful solutions.
d. Actively participates in meetings, workshops, and conferences that influence school or district decision-making. Advocates for school needs by providing thoughtful input, and once decisions are made, supports and implements them while ensuring staff do the same.
e. Engages in school academic, athletic, and co-curricular activities to supervise, support, and advocate for students and programs. The principal is expected to regularly attend home events and activities.

All school-based personnel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits consistent with the District’s compensation plan. Extended hours beyond the regular school day may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Master’s Degree
(2) Principal Certification
(3) Minimum two years administrative experience, secondary experience preferred.
CLEARANCES:
Fingerprint and background check required.
Sexual misconduct background check required.
