Job DescriptionThe Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics invites applications for a non-tenure-track and non-tenured teaching faculty position with a specialization in Solid Mechanics, Design, and/or Manufacturing, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. This position is a renewable, fixed-term, non-tenure-track, full-time position. The initial term of appointment is three years.
The individual hired will be expected to teach core undergraduate courses, such as mechanics, strength of materials, mechanical design, manufacturing, and finite element analysis, as well as senior technical elective courses in their areas of interest. Teaching assignments may include both laboratory-based and lecture-based courses. Teaching faculty are also expected to advise undergraduate students, as well as participate in departmental, college, and/or university service.
While the position is not tenurable, Teaching Assistant Professors who develop excellent records in the areas of teaching and service are expected to become eligible for consideration for promotion to the rank of Teaching Associate Professor, and ultimately to the rank of Teaching Full Professor.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics at Lehigh University offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, as well as technical minors in energy and aerospace engineering. The department has thriving graduate programs in mechanical engineering (MS/PhD) and aerospace and space systems engineering (MS), with pathways for undergraduate students to pursue accelerated 4+1 studies. The department includes tenure-track, research-track, and teaching-track faculty who contribute to the teaching mission. As one of the largest undergraduate and graduate programs within the university, the department places a strong emphasis on educational excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.

Qualifications
Candidates must have earned a PhD or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a closely related field by the date of employment.
