Position Information

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required and Masters degree preferred in Landscape Architecture or related Environmental Planning and Design field, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or Architecture with experience focused in planning and design of the outdoor environment.
- A minimum of five years of Project Management experience in an urban, campus, and/or institutional environment where balance and hierarchy of space is critical to the successful creation of memorable spaces that function optimally in support of the institutional mission.
- Experience working as an Owners Representative where leadership and facilitation of large design teams including multiple design disciplines is necessary to achieve project goals and milestones.
- Demonstrated increasingly responsible experience in the design realm with the ability to adapt and manage wide range of site and facilities construction projects that have routinely involved planning, historic preservation, architecture and interior design, and construction oversight.
Position Summary
Individual performs project oversight leading to project success. This oversight includes comprehensive responsibility for all stages of the project from project programming to project close out. Projects may include alteration and repair projects to existing university buildings or new building construction projects. Projects could be located on any University of Georgia (UGA) campus and could involve a wide range of facilities such as laboratories, athletic facilities, concert halls, classrooms, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulatory agency guidelines as well as construction methods and construction administration.
- Communicate and effectively establish and maintain working relationships with university faculty and administrative personnel.
- Project Management including management of design professionals and contractors.
- Basic understanding and fluency in Microsoft Windows based operating system and Microsoft Office Suite of software.
- Foundational comprehension and proficiency to work within and between graphics and presentation-oriented software platforms that are common in the design, architecture and engineering industries, including, but not limited to Adobe Acrobat, Auto CAD, Sketchup, and similar products.
Physical Demands
- Sedentary desk work for computer related and administrative tasks.
- Regular on-site inspections involving walking through active construction sites.
- Travel to active construction sites which may involve some overnight stays.
- Lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Driving to perform job related duties.

Duties/Responsibilities
The individual oversees projects, contributing to their successful completion. Projects typically include studies, design and/or construction phases. This oversight incorporates comprehensive responsibility for all stages of projects including, but not limited, to initial studies, pricing, concept preparation, programming, design, construction, and closeout/warranty. The employee oversees planning, budgeting, scheduling, designing, and constructing of assigned projects. Project may involve alteration and repair to existing university and/or athletic buildings or new building construction projects.
Percentage of time 55 Duties/Responsibilities
The job entails conducting on-site visits for meetings with the Owner, Architect, and Contractor, as well as overseeing general project management.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
Professional communication with USG Board of Regents staff, university and/or athletic department leadership and personnel, design professionals, consultants, contractors, subcontractors and material and equipment vendors needed. This communication may include direct interaction, oral and written communication, and the assembly and deliverance of presentation material related to and in support of UGA projects and strategic plan.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
The position provides direction to the design professional and the contractor related to all facets of the project. In addition, the employee will evaluate vendor and consultant proposals and negotiate services & costs. The employee will gather/prepare other information regarding program, design, final construction documents, equipment lists and construction administration for a number of projects which are at various stages of development.
