- Po'o Kula (Head of School)
Description
The Poo Kula at Ke Kula o Kamehameha serves as the educational and operational leader of the
campus. This role provides strategic, tactical, and day-to-day leadership across all educational
programs (e.g., academics, arts, co-curricular, and athletics) and campus support services (e.g.,
information technology and operations). The Poo Kula is a member of the executive leadership team
and reports directly to the CEO. In this capacity, the Po‘o Kula acts as an enterprise leader,
collaborating with Kamehameha Schools executives and educational leaders to advance the mission,
vision, and priorities of Kamehameha Schools both within and beyond their campus.
It is expected that the Poo Kula will conduct themself at all times as a “good and industrious” steward
and model of the legacy of our founder Ke Alii Bernice Pauahi Pk Bishop. This includes adhering to
the highest standards of Hawaiian and Christian values, ethics, loyalty, and diligence, and keeping our
keiki at the center of all we do, with student safety and well-being as a core value and our highest
priority.
Our educational philosophy is grounded in E Ola!, which emphasizes the development of iwi leaders
who use their education to uplift their ohana and lhui through solutions grounded in Hawaiian
identity. The Poo Kula models E Ola! learner outcomes and exhibits the same values, identity, and
actions expected of our haumna. The Poo Kula leads a learning community rooted in ‘ike kupuna,
aloha ‘ina, and kpono, nurturing haumna, faculty, and staff to become agents of positive
transformation for Hawaii and the world.
Note: For the Head of School of the Kaplama campus, kuleana includes oversight of the Residential
Life group, and housing is a condition of employment.
