The Department of Advanced Oral Sciences & Therapeutics at the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Dentistry is recruiting a highly motivated Research Associate to work under the direction of the Department Chair in his role as a National Institutes of Health Principal Investigator operating in the third year of a five-year multi-sited grant which encompasses education, mentoring and collaboration of dental faculty and dental students, and clinical dental research studies.
Work duties include oversight and management of studies to ensure they are conducted ethically, efficiently and in strict adherence to study protocols and regulatory requirements within the SOD and with partner institutions through a single IRB. Position will also require remote oversite and support of the research assistant and project operations with a partnering institution.
Program goals encompass clinical research education and skills development, peer and student mentoring, and research project development and implementation. The role of the candidate involves coordination, communication, and management of monthly small research group virtual meetings and bi-annual large in-person symposiums. Supportive duties may include literature search and analysis and manuscript and document preparation.
A well-suited candidate in this multifaceted role will manage the research team, communication with the sponsor, and the day-to-day operations of research conducted in the dental clinics. The position will require a strong background in research site management, compliance monitoring, data integrity, and documentation and reporting. Study activities include patient participant recruitment, enrollment and scheduling.
Requirements
The minimum qualifications include:
Education: a bachelor’s degree in dental Hygiene preferred, with an associate’s degree in oral healthcare related field or a bachelor’s degree in a healthcare profession considered.
Experience: Prior experience (a minimum of 1-3 years) in a clinical research environment, in particular Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulatory requirements and reporting is preferred. A working knowledge of dental terminology and procedures and experience in electronic dental patient records (Axium) is a bonus.
Skills: Excellent communication (written and verbal) with the research team as well as patients, students, and staff in the dental clinic environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Office skills include proficiency in Word for document creation and formatting, basic Excel functions, and Teams for communication. Experience in handling data entry in REDCap is preferred.
