Description
Detailed Job DescriptionThe Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) department seeks a tenure-track faculty member to contribute to teaching and applied research in Robotics and Autonomous Systems. This position focuses on the intersection of electrical engineering, computing, and intelligent systems-areas where AI, machine learning, and data analytics are transforming traditional domains including robotics, autonomous systems, power systems, and embedded technologies. Expertise that bridges multiple domains, including machine learning for embedded systems, energy systems and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, battery management systems, industrial automation and control, advanced power electronics, cyber-physical systems security, and wireless power transfer is preferred.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative department committed to hands-on, applied learning that prepares students for immediate impact in industry. This is an exceptional opportunity for an innovative educator-researcher to shape curriculum at the convergence of electrification, automation, and artificial intelligence while building an applied research program that engages undergraduate students and industry partners.
Responsibilities:
The position requires commitment to excellence in undergraduate education, development of an externally funded applied research program, and service to the department, college, and profession. Faculty are expected to maintain strong connections with industry, integrate emerging technologies into curriculum, and mentor students in research and capstone projects.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise to teach and conduct research in one or more of the following areas:
- Robotics and Autonomous Systems
- Shape the future of intelligent machines that sense, reason, and act in dynamic environments - Mobile robotics, manipulation, surgical and rehabilitation robotics, human-robot interaction, computer vision, sensor fusion, motion planning, drive systems, and autonomous navigation.
- Power Systems and Smart Grid Technologies
- Lead the transformation of electrical infrastructure for the 21st century - Power system analysis, protection, grid modernization, distributed energy resource integration, demand response, microgrid design, and power electronics applications.
- Embedded Systems and IoT
- Drive innovation in the computational heart of modern devices and systems - Microcontroller and FPGA-based design, real-time operating systems, wireless sensor networks, edge computing, system-on-chip architectures, and embedded security. Create hands-on experiences that prepare students to develop the embedded intelligence that powers everything from consumer devices to industrial automation.
- Energy Systems
- Advance the transition to sustainable energy solutions - Energy storage systems, power conversion, energy management systems, and hybrid renewable installations.
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories.
- Engage in curriculum development to ensure the programs stay current with industry trends and technological advancements.
- Demonstrate commitment to student engagement through activity-based pedagogy and experiential learning opportunities.
- Participate in teaching workshops such as those provided through KEEN and NETI.
- Conduct research in a well-defined focus area within your domain that supports the college's research impact areas of Forging our Future; Toward a Safer Society and Expanding Human Capacity. These faculty-led collaborative research groups leverage existing expertise and nurture the next generation of faculty leadership.
- Secure external funding
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and reputed conferences
- Contribute to the department, college, and university through committee work and other service activities.
- Maintain a clear professional development agenda to support the department's growth and keep abreast of advancements in AI and ML applications in engineering technology.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field, or PhD in STEM Education with appropriate MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field
- Demonstrated knowledge and potential to be proficient in teaching at the college level
- A strong publication record in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
- Previous experience in securing external funding for research is highly desirable.
