The Department of Religious Studies at Wellesley College invites applications for a part-time (0.4 FTE) one-year Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in Religious Cultures of Asia, to begin in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will offer two courses, one in Fall 2026 and the other in Spring 2027. In addition to class meeting times, the applicant will hold regular office hours in person and promptly respond to student inquiries throughout the semester.
The position is non-renewable. We seek applicants trained and qualified to teach in any of the following areas: religions in Asia; global or transnational Asian religions; or diasporic Asian religions. We welcome a variety of disciplinary and methodological engagements, but familiarity with forms of analysis in one or more of the following areas is preferred: gender and sexuality; ecology; literature, performance, and visual culture; philosophy and ethics; or historical, social scientific and comparative approaches. Competence in the relevant textual materials and languages is expected. Visiting Assistant Teaching Professors are not expected to engage in first-year, major or minor advising, professional development, or service responsibilities.
Basic Qualifications:
Candidates holding PhDs and advanced ABD candidates are encouraged to apply.
Position Information:
Teaching Load: 2 courses per year (one in Fall 2026, one in Spring 2027)
Term of Appointment: 1 year, without possibility of renewal.
Target Start Date: August 31, 2026
Minimum Salary: $20,000 per year
