Description
The department of East Asian Studies at Brown University seeks to hire a full-time Visiting Lecturers of Japanese language, effective 07/01/26. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching a minimum of two Japanese language courses at assigned levels, and working closely with other program faculty for Japan-related events and activities. This is a two-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal dependent on performance and curricular need.
For this position, Brown offers only the J-1 visa classification to scholars who need immigration sponsorship in order to enter the U.S. and commence lawful employment under the terms of their appointment.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include an M.A. degree in Japanese language, linguistics, language pedagogy, applied linguistics/second language acquisition or related fields; native or near-native fluency in Japanese; competency in spoken and written English; experience in teaching Japanese language to English-speaking students at the university level; and demonstrated teaching effectiveness. Experience directing Japanese language courses is desirable. The ideal candidate is confident in the use of instructional technology and its applications to classroom teaching. Applicants should be able to teach Japanese at all levels.
