The Physical Therapy Program, housed in the McQueary College of Health and Human Services
(MCHHS), invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of
Assistant Professor, beginning January 1, 2027. The position is intended for a licensed physical
therapist with training and clinical experience in orthopedic physical therapy.
MCHHS supports more than 3,000 undergraduate and 900 graduate students through nationally

The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty and is expected to demonstrate
achievement in teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. Teaching
responsibilities are assigned by the Physical Therapy Program Director and may include serving as
an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor is also expected to engage in scholarly activities
beyond those associated with teaching and to demonstrate professional productivity in research,
consistent with the mission of the University and the availability of resources.

Requirements

Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor will provide didactic instruction in the physical therapy curriculum with
primary emphasis in teaching physical therapy students how to evaluate and treat patients with
acute, recurrent, and chronic orthopedic/neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction. The Assistant
Professor will be expected to supervise and mentor students in clinical and laboratory settings,
integrated clinical experiences, and clinical education. This may include assisting in curricular
development, promotion of student development of strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and
manual skills. Additional responsibilities include assisting in program development, engaging in
scholarly activity; and providing service to the department, college, university, and profession.
Clinical practice opportunities are available and encouraged.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a physical therapist eligible for licensure in Missouri, hold a clinical
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, and possess a Cyriax-based advanced clinical practice
manual therapy certification (e.g., clinical certification in orthopedic manual therapy through the
International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine) or be enrolled in an advanced Cyriax-based clinical
practice manual therapy certification program with an expected completion date of December 2027.
The candidate must have prior academic teaching experience with demonstrated excellence and
possess at least five years of orthopedic clinical and administrative experience in an outpatient,
manual therapy setting, treating patients with acute, recurrent, and chronic orthopedic and
neuromuscular dysfunction. A research agenda and potential for scholarly activity are required.
Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate effective communication and relationship-building
skills, as well as knowledge of, respect for, and the ability to engage successfully with individuals
from diverse cultures and backgrounds. The successful candidate will also exhibit inclusive teaching
practices and be knowledgeable in the use of student-centered pedagogy to actively engage
students in the learning process. The candidate will join a unit dedicated to providing students with
access to high-impact practices aimed at increasing student retention, persistence, and success.
