About the Program:
The Forensic Health Program at Binghamton University is an interdisciplinary academic initiative designed to prepare students to work at the intersection of healthcare, public safety, and the justice system. Housed within Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the program brings together faculty expertise from nursing, public policy, criminal justice, and the social sciences to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how health issues intersect with legal and forensic contexts. For prospective faculty, the program offers a collaborative and mission-driven environment with opportunities to engage in applied research, interdisciplinary teaching, and community impact focused on improving outcomes for vulnerable and justice-involved populations.
Job Description:
Binghamton University's Forensic Health Program, located at the Health Sciences campus in Johnson City, New York, invites applications for part-time Adjunct Instructor positions in a campus-based forensic health minor. These positions are part-time, non-tenure track faculty positions, renewable annually. This role is ideal for professionals seeking to share their expertise, contribute to workforce development, and shape the next generation of forensic health practitioners. The program values applied experience and supports adjunct faculty in translating their professional knowledge into effective teaching.
We are seeking applicants with education and expertise in a variety of areas, with the option of teaching one or more courses. Having relevant practical experience in a forensic discipline, as well as participation and membership in professional organizations, is encouraged.
Salary and benefits are aligned with SUNY UUP member negotiated benefits. Application review will begin as soon as possible and remain open until the positions are filled. The position reports to the Director of the Forensic Health Program.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- MS in a forensic-related discipline required
- Minimum of two years of full-time equivalent practical experience in a forensic discipline.
- Must have experience in one of the following areas:
- Forensic Counseling
- Medicolegal death investigation
- Criminalistics
- Forensic Nursing
- Forensic Pediatrics
- Criminology
- Criminal Justice
- Corrections/probation/parole
- Working with victims of crime
- Minimum of one year of full-time equivalent teaching experience as a lead course instructor in an undergraduate or graduate program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate (PhD, EdD, JD, etc.) in a related field is preferred
- Preference will be given to candidates who have taught in higher education, particularly those who have taught forensic courses in a traditional, on-campus environment. Experience with a variety of technology including on-line learning environments and innovative classroom teaching is preferred.
- Unencumbered license in New York State, applicable to candidates prepared as a Registered Nurse, Forensic Counselor, or other license-holding profession.
- Experience with advanced instructional strategies for building student metacognitive, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with interprofessional and intraprofessional education.
- Experience in trauma-informed teaching and supporting student well-being.
