Job Description:
Budget Title: Admissions Assistant (SL-2)
Salary: $51,261 (Regular position. Full-time, temporary for one year due to promotional hold, with the expectation of transition to a term appointment in the future)
Binghamton University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Admissions Specialist to support the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in the recruitment of new students. The Undergraduate Admissions Office seeks a dynamic individual with effective communication and interpersonal skills to represent the University among prospective students, their families, and colleagues. The position will involve supporting the undergraduate admissions team through their technical abilities, organizational skills, and detail-oriented tasks in order to better manage the recruitment funnel. The Admissions Specialist works alongside an experienced, collaborative team and gains hands-on exposure to the full admissions cycle, from recruitment and event planning to application review, at one of the premier public universities in the Northeast.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Guide students and families through the admissions process via counseling, presenting, and motivational speaking
- Manage data of recruitment activities including, but not limited to:
- high school visits
- college fairs
- recruitment events hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions
- communication & outreach activities
- virtual events
- Assist in organizing and planning recruitment activities
- Build a strong working knowledge of Binghamton University, its programs, policies, staffing & enrollment goals, and history
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the undergraduate admissions process in order to develop and foster results to meet Binghamton University's enrollment goals. These include, but are not limited to:
- high school counselors
- community college partners
- vendors
- campus partners
- other college partners
- students
- alumni
- other Undergraduate Admissions staff
- Review applications as an active member of application reading committees through a holistic reading process and make recommendations
- Participate in the development of operating goals and recommend, implement, and administer methods and procedures to enhance operations
- Assist with the planning and implementation of new procedural policies to increase the efficiency of the Undergraduate Admissions application process
- Be available for questions from students, families, and campus partners through email, phone, and in person
- Manage a special program or serve as a liaison between undergraduate admissions and another campus constituent
- Travel locally to represent Binghamton at high school visits, college fairs, and off-campus recruitment events
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher)
- Public speaking experience in both individual and very large group settings
- Analytical thinking
- Creative problem-solving
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends, including several Open House events each year
- Ability to walk, stand for long periods, lift and carry boxes that weigh 25 lbs. or more with or without accommodation
- Experience working with and serving diverse populations
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently
Preferred:
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Experience with higher education admission CRM such as Slate and/or comprehensive student systems such as Banner or other technical experience
- Demonstrated understanding of data/based enrollment management techniques
- Knowledge of local, regional, national, and international college counseling ethics, standards, trends, strategies, and tactics
