The University of Alabama School of Law seeks qualified applicants for the position of Professor of Legal Writing at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on qualifications.
This is a 9-month position and does not include the possibility of tenure. The position will be on a contract basis with an initial three-year term. After initial renewal, subsequent three-year terms will be presumptively renewable.
The Legal Writing professor will teach two sections in the first-year program and will also develop an upper-level writing or drafting course and teach that course twice during the three-year contract.
If a candidate is appointed to serve as Director of Alabama Law's Legal Writing Program and/or Director of the Moot Court Program, they may have a reduced teaching load and additional responsibilities as assigned.
The Director of Legal Writing will guide the development and improvement of the legal writing program and support the legal writing faculty. The Director of the Moot Court Program will oversee the coordination and execution of the Alabama Law 2L Moot Court Competition and serve as the primary advisor to the Moot Court Board.
Applicants must have a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and a strong academic record. Applicants must demonstrate effective legal writing skills and should be admitted to and in good standing with a state bar. Preference may be given to applicants with significant teaching or practice experience. Salary and benefits will be nationally competitive.
