- Assistant Professor of Dance
Description
Barnard College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Global Dance Studies—a research-focused position in Dance and Performance Studies. Specializations of interest include East Asian, South Asian, African or African Diasporic, Indigenous, Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian Dance Studies, or dance studies of the Americas.
The successful candidate will conduct original research and develop courses in dance history, theory, and cultural studies—for example, seminars on global dance traditions, performance historiography, or critical theories of the body and movement. The appointment is based in the Department of Dance, with potential affiliation in a related department. Candidates may join the faculty of Columbia's Ph.D. Program in Theatre and Performance.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Dance, Performance Studies, or a related field by the time of appointment.. Candidates should demonstrate a distinguished record of publication (or clear promise of one), proven teaching excellence at the college level, and willingness to serve the Department, College, and University.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in dance or related discipline at time of appointment, a distinguished record of scholarly publication or promise of such, proven capacity for teaching excellence at the college level, and ability and desire to perform service within the department, college, and university. This appointment will be based in the Department of Dance, with potential affiliation in a relevant Department as appropriate. Candidates may also be eligible to join the faculty of the Columbia University Ph.D. Program in Theatre and Performance.
