Description
The Harvard Graduate School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
We seek outstanding scholars whose work advances society’s understanding of education. Strong applicants will be distinguished by the quality of their research and the significance of their work for policy and practice. We welcome applicants from all disciplinary and methodological perspectives. We seek applicants who conduct rigorous empirical research, and we prioritize the originality, rigor, and promise of the candidate’s research rather than subfield. We are especially interested in candidates whose work speaks to pressing challenges in education.
We seek candidates who have the interest, enthusiasm, and potential to teach and mentor master’s and doctoral students interested in pursuing both research and practice-based careers in education. The candidate is expected to make meaningful contributions to the core curriculum of our graduate programs by teaching required courses and recommended elective courses as part of specific program pathways. The ability to help students develop conceptual as well as procedural professional knowledge beyond one’s own specific expertise is essential to our graduate programs.
High-quality teaching is greatly valued at HGSE, and the school is committed to cultivating and supporting effective pedagogical practices among faculty, including through our Teaching and Learning Lab, which provides consultation services for faculty teaching. HGSE faculty at all ranks advise master’s students, mentor doctoral students, and participate in institutional governance and service.
The search committee will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2026; for full consideration, please apply by that date. Please submit a CV, cover letter, research statement (ca. 2-3 pages), statement of teaching philosophy, the names of three references (letters are not required at the initial stage), and three or more writing samples/publications (article or chapter-length) online at https://apply.interfolio.com/191063. Candidates invited to interview will be asked to submit additional documents (e.g., sample syllabi, teaching evaluations). Letters of recommendation may be requested in the month of October or November.
