Marquette University’s Department of Finance invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice. This position supports the College of Business Administration’s newly launched AI in Business major and contributes to the Finance Department’s growing emphasis on the intersection of artificial intelligence, data-driven decision-making, and financial practice. The successful candidate will be an innovative educator with applied expertise in AI and finance, committed to preparing students for careers in a rapidly evolving industry.
The candidate will teach courses in AI in Finance and related areas, with a standard load of 24 credit hours per academic year. A reduced load of 18 credit hours per year may be considered for candidates who hold a Ph.D. or terminal degree and maintain an active research agenda. Responsibilities include:
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in AI in Finance, fintech, data analytics for finance, and related subjects;
Develop and update course materials to reflect current tools, industry practices, and emerging applications of AI in financial services;
Contribute to the College’s AI in Business major through curriculum design, cross-departmental collaboration, and advising;
Mentor and advise students on academic and career development;
Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work, program assessment, and shared governance;
Pursue scholarly or applied research in AI and finance (a Ph.D. or terminal degree plus an active research agenda is required for 18-credit load consideration).
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Master’s degree in Finance, Financial Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field from an AACSB-accredited institution.
2. Demonstrated experience applying artificial intelligence or machine learning tools in a finance or business context.
3. Evidence of effective college-level teaching or strong potential for teaching excellence.
4. Strong communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to student engagement and learning.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Ph.D. in Finance, Financial Economics, Data Science, or a related field; strongly preferred.
2. Or industry experience in fintech, quantitative finance, algorithmic trading, or AI-driven financial applications.
3. Experience developing or teaching courses that integrate Python, machine learning, or artificial intelligence tools into a finance curriculum.
4. Familiarity with undergraduate or graduate AI in Business program design.
5. Active research agenda in artificial intelligence, fintech, or quantitative finance.
6. Relevant professional or technical certifications, such as the CFA designation or certifications in Python for Data Science or Machine Learning.
