The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan seeks outstanding scholars for new tenure-track assistant professor faculty positions as part of the Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT). This hiring program, a federally funded, university-wide faculty initiative, aims to recruit faculty with a demonstrated and ongoing record of driving transformative research, life-changing teaching, and accessible clinical care that will support the health of all, including communities who have been underserved.
By partnering with faculty throughout their careers, M-PACT strengthens the capacity of those who serve as catalysts for change in academic and healthcare environments through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service activities, with research interests suitable for funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This call is part of a broader university effort to enhance inclusive excellence across the biomedical and health sciences community. This is a full-time, university year appointment with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2027.
The Program in Biophysics at the University of Michigan seeks exceptional applicants for the 2026 Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT) Program. The Program in Biophysics is a broad, interdisciplinary program whose faculty apply the principles of physics, chemistry, computation, and theoretical modeling to explain the molecular and cellular structures specific to life. Faculty collaborate extensively across the biological, physical, computational, engineering, and biomedical sciences to address fundamental questions in biology and medicine. We welcome applicants whose work complements and expands the strengths of the Program in Biophysics while fostering collaborations across the biological, physical, computational, and biomedical sciences.
Application Process
To receive full consideration, applicants must meet the M-PACT eligibility requirements and complete the application process described below. The M-PACT application portal opens August 1, 2026. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree conferred by July 1, 2027, must never have held a tenure-track faculty appointment, and must be eligible for NIH Early Stage Investigator (ESI) status.
- Review the M-PACT program website to confirm your eligibility and familiarize yourself with the required application materials, statements, deadlines, and application process before beginning your application.
- Applicants with questions regarding the position or the departmental search process are encouraged to contact the Program in Biophysics at biophysicssearch@umich.edu before submitting their application materials.
- Once your application materials are complete, email a single PDF of your application materials (excluding letters of recommendation) to biophysicssearch@umich.edu AND submit the required materials through the M-PACT application portal Applicants are encouraged to submit their completed application materials by Oct 5 but will be accepted until the final application deadline of October 12. Applicants should include three to five keywords describing their research program and a brief (one- to two-sentence) summary of their primary research interests in the body of the email.
For the M-Pact application, materials are due Monday, October 12, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET (reference letters will be accepted until October 26, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET). If a combined statement is written, it must be uploaded for both the M-PACT and service statements.
