Harvey Mudd College (HMC) invites applications for the inaugural Jenna and Paul Segal Endowed Professorship of Artificial Intelligence.
The successful candidate will help build and advance the College's human-centered, interdisciplinary vision for AI (hmc.edu/ai). They will join a collaborative faculty creatively exploring AI across the disciplines and through the College's interdisciplinary centers. We seek an exemplary teacher-scholar who will explore the technical frontiers of AI intertwined with its human, ethical and societal implications, while preparing students to collaborate with AI systems in real-world contexts. We anticipate hiring at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates at all ranks are encouraged to apply.
We welcome applications from scholars of AI with connections to any discipline—including but not limited to the sciences, engineering, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
The successful candidate will provide students with vibrant AI research experiences and develop innovative AI curricula, including courses and programming that support AI education, at HMC and beyond. In addition to offering courses at the forefront of AI technological advances, the candidate will be expected to articulate how the ethical, societal, and human-centered dimensions of AI inform their research and teaching.
Harvey Mudd College is a highly selective liberal arts college of science, engineering, and mathematics. It is located in Claremont, CA, approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles, at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. Our residential, living-learning community of 900 students thrives on close student-faculty connections, requiring fully on campus teaching presence. We are looking for faculty who are eager to engage deeply with students both inside and outside the classroom. Our innovative and rigorous curriculum prepares students for both employment and graduate school and includes an active research program involving a substantial number of undergraduates. Successful candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the time of appointment. The anticipated 9-month salary range for the assistant professor level is $115k – 135k, depending on experience.
