Description
The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes applications for the role of Associate Director of Athletics, Wellness, & Recreation - Operations. This position will serve as the department's lead administrator for operational needs and event management.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the department's lead administrator for operational needs and event management.
- Oversee all aspects of game day and event operations for home athletic contests and special events.
- Supervise and coordinate Event Managers and related operational staff.
- Manage and maintain the department's master events calendar, ensuring effective scheduling and coordination of facilities and resources.
- Department's point person regards game contacts
- Serve as the department's inventory manager, overseeing equipment tracking, procurement, storage,and replacement planning.
- Provide oversight of athletic facilities, including maintenance coordination, operational readiness, and facility improvement initiatives.
- Assist with the scheduling and administration of facility rentals and external events.
- Serve as the sport supervisor for assigned varsity programs, providing administrative support and oversight.
- Act as Tournament Director for conference and NCAA postseason events hosted on campus.
- Participate as a member of the department's Senior Staff, contributing to strategic planning, policy development, budget discussions, and departmental decision-making.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the department's goals and objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in intercollegiate athletics administration, athletic operations, event management, facilities management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing athletic events, game operations, tournaments, or comparable large-scale events.
- Experience supervising professional staff, student employees, or event personnel.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse constituencies, including coaches, students, faculty,staff, campus partners, and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and event scheduling/calendar management systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Sports Management, Higher Education Administration, Business Administration,Recreation Management, or a related field.
- Experience in NCAA Division III athletics.
- Experience serving as a sport supervisor.
- Experience with athletic facility management and oversight of capital improvement projects.
- Experience coordinating conference championships and/or NCAA postseason events.
- Background in budget management, inventory control, procurement, and contract administration.
- Experience managing facility rentals and external event agreements.
- Familiarity with athletic scheduling software, event management systems, and facility reservation platforms.
- Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete development, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
