Description
Description
If you are passionate about a rich and diverse liberal arts environment, work well in a highly collaborative environment, have a penchant for building relationships, and love to curate events that spark interest and engagement, we'd like to hear from you. Middlebury College is seeking an Associate Director for Family Philanthropy to join our team to help advance the mission of the College - an institution with dynamic leadership and vision. As the Associate Director for Family Philanthropy, you will share the compelling story of a college that is redefining the liberal arts for the 21st century. You'll help us tell this story by managing a portfolio of parent donors and by executing events for the Family Philanthropy Circle, and for all Middlebury parents, in close connection with our senior leadership and faculty. With a reach that extends beyond its Vermont campus, Middlebury is capturing the attention of people who want to be part of something exciting.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $74,958 - $87,328 per year.
Core Responsibilities:
- Establish personal relationships with an assigned pool of parents, to cultivate their support and solicit gifts of $100,000 to $5,000,0000.
- Build and advance strong relationships with current and past parents and grandparents of Middlebury that result in philanthropic contributions; serve as a resource, advocate, and spokesperson for development programs at Middlebury.
- Solicit an annual gift for the Parents' Fund from each assigned prospect, either through a personal visit, collaboration with a volunteer, or through partnership with the Annual Giving program.
- Work closely with members of the Major Gifts team, Principal Gifts, Gift Planning, Annual Giving, Research, Stewardship and Special Events in strategizing, engagement, proposal development, gift solicitation and stewardship of constituents.
- In partnership with the Director, recruit, train, and oversee a volunteer corps of high-capacity parent volunteers that make up the Family Philanthropy Circle.
- Plan and execute programming for on campus, regional and virtual events for parents. Collaborate with campus partners who impact parent constituents to achieve a stronger parent communication; more parent engagement; and positive, effective parent communications.
- Assist the Director in supporting Advancement colleagues with information pertinent to the student experience, and counsel in dealing with issues of concern to parents and families as they arise.
- In collaboration with the Director, assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of new Family of Wealth program - to achieve earlier outreach to young alumni and ongoing communication and solicitations of high-net-worth parents. Manage Family of Wealth prospects, as part of their assigned pool, as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required, masters or post graduate degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years fundraising and/or volunteer management. Track record of raising five-figure and six-figure gifts over multiple years.
- Must possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software along with a competence in database and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to initiate as well as collaborate.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to translate internal information to an external audience both verbally and in writing.
- Strong administrative, organizational and analytical skills needed to establish strategic fundraising goals, monitor their progress, and report on results.
- Willingness, and ability, to travel extensively.
- Ability to effectively navigate within a complex, multi-campus setting where collaboration and teamwork are valued along with individual initiative and creativity.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Ability to travel independently.
