The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary
This is highly skilled technical work involving operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting all building automated systems and components for campus high containment Biosafety Level 3 ( BSL -3, ABSL -3, and ABSL -3Ag) facilities and laboratories. In addition, the Building Automation Specialist Technician will facilitate preventative and corrective maintenance on all mechanical systems, identify structural and mechanical repairs, assist with Annual Performance Verifications ( APV ), generate reports, escort contractors, assist with facility related alarms and facility emergency response, assist FMD with Veterinary Biosciences Facility and Riverbend South APV , including facility decontamination. This position will assist in writing and editing standard operating procedures as needed. This position will work closely with FMD and AHRC Administration to maintain compliance with regulatory bodies and achieve goals and objectives of the facility.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Knowledge at journeyman level of mechanical, electrical, HVAC , plumbing, and/or structural maintenance fields.
• Prior experience with Siemens BAS software and hardware
• Ability to think critically under pressure
• Able to perform maintenance on building systems and their components as needed and understand how automated building systems work
• Able to read, understand, and maintain paperwork, generate reports, and operate reporting software
• Able to maintain CDC / DSAT / DOJ registration
• Maintain Occupational Health Enrollment
Physical Demands
1. Withstand sustained periods of physical activity such as standing, bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level and lifting 75 pounds.
2. Work under challenging conditions (high humidity/temperature unpleasant odors, animal excreta and noise).
3. Work involves exposure to bio-hazards, chemicals and/or physical risks, which involve following established safety procedures.
4. Job involves taking multiple showers each day and wearing PPE and standing on hard surfaces for prolonged periods of time.

Operates, monitors, and maintains Building Automated System ( BAS ) to comply with regulatory standards, assist in performing Annual Performance Verification, equipment validations, and preventative maintenance. Consults with AHRC administration, OBS , and FMD in making modifications or adjustments to the BAS .
Reports alarms or issues to appropriate party and assists with identifying, rectifying, and generating reports on alarms and/or issues. Keeps abreast of new technology, enforcement, and programs involving building automation systems.

Duties/Responsibilities
Facilitates mechanical and structural repairs throughout campus high containment facilities while working closely with FMD . Share duties with FMD for facility walkthroughs, carrying the on-call facility phone, and assisting with after hours emergencies. Generates reports and archives them appropriately. Decontaminates spaces as needed to assist with FMD repairs or maintenance. Assists FMD in identifying needed structural and mechanical repairs throughout the facility.

Assists in re-alignment of security camera feeds, updates document archival program, maintains and updates floor plan layout maps, and retrieves data as requested by OBS , AHRC administration, and FMD . Works in other software programs (Microsoft Office, Siemens Apogee, and ALC controls). Writes and updates facility SOPs as needed. Other duties to assist in overarching goals of each facility.

Assists with contacting, scheduling, and escorting contractors for regularly scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled repairs or installations. Manges Siemens contract and assists with Siemens repairs, upgrades, and maintenance as needed.
