Tenure-Track/Tenured Faculty, Associate Professor Rank-MSW Department
Morgan State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track/tenured chair position at the rank of associate professor in the MSW Department within the School of Social Work. The expected start date is August 2026.
We seek candidates who have a strong desire to contribute to a growing School of Social Work at one of the nation's largest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
The mission of Morgan's School of Social Work is to prepare practitioners and leaders, policy experts, knowledge producers, scholars, and social work educators who are committed to solving problems and improving the quality of life for urban individuals, families, and communities. Special focus is on urban individuals, families, and communities of color within a racial, social, and economic justice framework. The School of Social Work also has a Center on Urban Violence and Crime Reduction. The Center's purpose is consistent with the School's urban mission, and it seeks to examine the incidents of crime and violence within urban communities from a critical, oppression-centered perspective.
Founded in 1867, and located in Baltimore, Maryland, Morgan State University is designated by the state as Maryland's Pre-eminent Public Urban Research University and currently has an R2 Carnegie classification. The university's recently adopted strategic plan places emphasis on Morgan's ascendency to an R1 research university. Morgan's mission is to serve a multiethnic and multiracial student body and to help ensure that the benefits of higher education are enjoyed by a broad segment of the population. To achieve this mission, the university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate academic programs, including 24 doctoral programs, and currently has the third largest enrollment among HBCUs in the nation.
Requirements
Candidates must have a doctorate in social work or a related field and a master's degree in social work with at least three years of post-MSW practice experience. A demonstrated and well-established record of scholarship/publications, teaching, and service is required, especially related to urban individuals, families, and communities. For the OMSW/MSW program, experience with online instruction of graduate students.

Job Duties
Oversees the selection, hiring, and evaluation of adjunct faculty
Oversees MSW/OMSW curriculum, including review of faculty syllabi and modification of curriculum based on current local, regional, national, and international trends in master's level social work education
Serve as a member of the School of Social Work Executive Council, the School's Leadership Team
Provides administrative oversight of the O/MSW Department and associated Programs
Provide ongoing support and supervision of faculty and staff in the MSW/OMSW Department
Ensures ongoing assessment and quality improvement of MSW/OMSW Programs
Monitors evaluation of OMSW/ MSW Programs
Coordinates OMSW/MSW student issues such as academic misconduct, grade appeals, and exceptions
Coordinates student advising and mentoring, and new student orientations
Coordinates recruitment and admission procedures and retention efforts
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics

Required Minimum Qualifications
