- Director of Lower School Chorus and Music Teacher (Part-time or Full-time)

Summary of the Position: The Montgomery Academy Lower School focuses on the development of the whole child. Our choral and music program in Grades K-4 lays the foundation for the work that students will do in the Middle School and Upper School. In this position, we are seeking an individual to serve as director of our Lower School chorus and to teach general music classes. The individual in this position is also responsible for stage directing each grade level musical play.
Students in the Lower School participate in music class as part of an enrichment rotation where they receive general music instruction once a week. Each grade level also performs a musical play where the grade level sings ensemble music and each individual student has either a speaking part or a singing solo. Rehearsals for these programs take place during the school day.
The Lower School Eagleaires Chorus is comprised of 3rd and 4th graders. Currently, rehearsals take place outside of the traditional school day, and they perform a fall and spring showcase. The Lower School Chorus performs off-site annually as well.
Note: A full-time arrangement would consist of a 5-day work week teaching all grade levels, directing the LS chorus and conducting all of the grade level musical productions. A part-time arrangement would consist of a 3-day work week, teaching 3 grade levels of music, conducting the LS Chorus, and conducting at least 3 grade level music productions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and teach developmentally appropriate music classes that reflect current best practices
Use the Responsive Classroom approach to classroom management
Prepare performances in the fall and spring semesters for the Lower School Chorus
Lead a field trip experience for chorus members
Plan, coordinate, and lead the rehearsals for grade level plays
Collaborate with both the Lower School enrichment team and the MA Arts Department (K-12)
Requirements
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education (advanced degree preferred)
Experience in teaching general music (elementary level preferred)
