JOB DESCRIPTION:

lasting impact. The Director of Secondary Education will work alongside outstanding principals and staff to shape the
future of teaching, learning, and student success across the district’s middle and high schools.
The Director of Secondary Education serves as the district’s lead instructional and leadership executive for grades 6–12.
This position provides vision, direction, coaching, and strategic leadership to secondary principals and school
leadership teams in support of the district’s mission, strategic plan, and student success goals.
The Director is responsible for ensuring coherence, alignment, and continuous improvement across the district’s
secondary schools. Working closely with the Superintendent, principals, staff, students, families, and community
partners, the Director develops leadership capacity, advances instructional excellence, strengthens school culture, and
ensures every student graduates prepared for success in college, career, and life.
JOB DUTIES:
Serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and district leadership team, contributing to the
development and execution of district strategic priorities.
Provide coaching and support of secondary principals, while leading leadership development initiatives for
principals, assistant principals, and aspiring leaders.
Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of secondary school
improvement plans, ensuring alignment with district goals and accountability measures.
Establish, monitor, and respond to districtwide secondary achievement, engagement, attendance, graduation,
and postsecondary readiness goals through the analysis of school and district performance data.
Foster alignment and coherence among middle and high school programs, instructional practices,
expectations, and systems to ensure a seamless 6–12 educational experience.
Lead and facilitate district secondary leadership structures, including Secondary Principal Huddles, the District
Instructional Council, and other collaborative forums that support continuous improvement and instructional
excellence.
Oversee the adoption, implementation, and evaluation of instructional materials for grades 6–12 and ensure
alignment with district curriculum, instructional frameworks, and state standards.
Design, coordinate, and support professional learning opportunities for secondary instructional staff,
administrators, specialists, and elective teachers to strengthen instructional effectiveness and student
outcomes.
Support and monitor the implementation of high-impact instructional practices and district instructional
frameworks through regular school visits, classroom walkthroughs, and leadership coaching.
Provide co-oversight of the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), ensuring equitable access to
academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions and supports for all students.
Supervise Career and Technical Education (CTE), secondary specialists, and 6–12 elective programs, ensuring
program quality, compliance, innovation, and alignment with student career and college readiness goals.
Support the development and continuous improvement of advanced coursework, dual-credit opportunities,
career pathways, and postsecondary transition programs.
Manage department budgets and resources, ensuring effective stewardship of district funds and alignment
with strategic priorities.
Administer and monitor federal and state-funded programs assigned to secondary education
Partner with Human Resources regarding the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, development, support, and
retention of secondary administrators and instructional leaders.
Engage families, community partners, and stakeholders in support of district goals, secondary school success,
and expanded opportunities for students.
Prepare reports, presentations, recommendations, and updates for the Superintendent, Cabinet, Board of
Directors, and other stakeholder groups.
Oversee day-to-day secondary operations and provide leadership for emerging issues, district initiatives, and
organizational priorities as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Requirements
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Successful experience as a secondary principal.
Experience leading school improvement efforts that resulted in measurable gains in student outcomes.
Experience supervising and coaching administrators.
Experience working collaboratively with labor groups, families, and community stakeholders.
District-level leadership experience preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Washington State Principal or Program Administrator credential.
2. Master’s degree required.
3. Successful administrative experience in secondary education.
4. Demonstrated success improving student achievement and school culture.
5. Valid Washington State driver’s license.
6. Successful completion of required background checks.
