- Director of the SG Fund
Description
The Director of the SG Fund will lead the design and execution of storytelling-driven fundraising initiatives that build emotional connections with key constituents and inspire meaningful philanthropic investment. This strategic role operates at the intersection of marketing, development, and relationship-building, making it ideal for a creative thinker with a deep understanding of donor behavior, engagement journeys, and motivation.
This goal-oriented professional is responsible for continuing the upward growth of the SG Fund, currently raising $4.2M a year, by planning and executing a highly segmented and thoughtful approach to annual fund solicitation and retention across all SG constituencies. The ideal candidate must possess knowledge of best (and new) practices in annual giving while bringing energy and creativity to develop and implement strategies. Exemplary oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic setting are required. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a detailed, multi-channel (digital, direct mail, text messaging, personal outreach, and social media) SG Fund communications plan that strategically encourages, increases, and retains support for the SG Fund;
- In collaboration with the Director of Data Management, use data insights and behavioral tracking to segment audiences and craft compelling communications based on interests, giving history, and engagement levels;
- Work with Advancement colleagues to ensure seamless experience post-gift that strengthens retention and donor-lifetime value;
- Develop and execute a strategy for all annual giving initiatives, including the SG day of giving (ONE DAY) and Dragon Cup (golf tournament);
- Create all appeal letters, online solicitations, and acknowledgement letters;
- Create a persona matrix and email workflows as part of the office’s gift acknowledgment and retention process;
- Partner with the Communications Office to strategize, brainstorm, and leverage content to enhance the individual donor experience;
- Coordinate with colleagues across campus to develop strategies to educate and engage current students and faculty on the importance and impact of the SG Fund;
- Compile and generate alumni and student stories which can be used for engagements, solicitation, and stewardship; and
- Provide accurate and detailed reporting for the Director of Advancement.
- Work as the office liaison with the Alumni Council
Additional Duties
- Some evening and weekend work and events will be required
- Regional travel may be required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Preference will be given to candidates with annual fund, communications, or marketing experience - preferably in the nonprofit, education, or mission-driven sector
- Familiarity with database systems and reporting
- Exceptional storytelling and writing skills across multiple formats (direct mail, email, print)
- Comfortable interacting with alumni, parents, students, and other constituents
- Attention to accuracy, details, and deadlines
- Proficient use of CRM systems (currently using Salesforce), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
