The Department of Economics in the Barry S. Miller College of Business at the University of Central Florida invites applications for an Economist-in-Residence and Visiting Instructor or Lecturer to help launch a new Initiative on Economic Decision Systems.
The Initiative examines how organizations design and manage decision systems in environments where economic reasoning, data, technology, and human judgment interact. Its centerpiece is the Economic Decision Systems Lab, where faculty, students, and organizational partners collaborate on applied decision problems. The Initiative supports the College's strategic emphasis on technology-enabled business transformation, industry engagement, and applied research.
This fixed-term position is designed for a dynamic, entrepreneurial individual interested in building new programs, developing partnerships, mentoring students, and translating economic thinking into organizational practice. Continued appointment beyond the initial term of up to 4 years may be considered based on success of the Initiative, evolution of organizational partnerships, and strategic priorities of the college. Success will be measured by the establishment of a functioning Lab with sustained external partnerships, a pipeline of applied projects, and a distinctive experiential learning program.
Minimum qualifications:
A terminal degree (for a lecturer) or a master’s degree (for an instructor) in economics or a related discipline from an accredited institution at the time of application.
Demonstrated experience applying economic reasoning and data analysis to organizational decision-making in data-rich environments.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience applying economics to improve decisions in industry, consulting, government, financial services, technology, or other organizations.
Experience leading applied projects at the intersection of economics, analytics, technology, and organizational design.
Experience mentoring students or early-career professionals, or leading collaborative teams.
Experience integrating human and artificial intelligence for organizational decision-making.
A dynamic, entrepreneurial interest in developing partnerships and new programs.
Ability and willingness to engage external organizations and help shape the direction of the Initiative.
