Description
The Opportunity Pinecrest School is seeking energetic, innovative, and dedicated Lead Teachers to join our vibrant, inclusive community for the upcoming school year (August Start Date). We are currently expanding our faculty and looking to fill three distinct full-time roles within our "Small by Design" ecosystem:
- Lower Elementary (1st Grade Lead Teacher & 2nd Grade Lead Teacher): Guide early learners through years of explosive academic and social growth, turning foundational skills into genuine academic fluency.
- Upper Elementary / The Bridge (5th & 6th Grade Lead Teacher): Act as the primary guide for older students, cultivating the independence and social-emotional maturity required for a successful transition to middle school.
In our small-class settings (around 15 students or less), you will be a catalyst for student agency, subject exploration, and academic excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Innovation: Design and deliver rigorous, differentiated, and cognitive science-based assignments that challenge and inspire. Bring core curricula to life through real-world connections and a "maker" mindset.
- Targeted Instructional Excellence:
- For Lower Elementary (1st/2nd): Deliver evidence-based literacy instruction using CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts), deeply grounded in the Science of Reading. Partner hand-in-hand with our Orton-Gillingham trained specialist to provide targeted interventions and enrichment. Foster early math/science concepts via Desmos Math and inquiry-based Amplify Science units.
- For Upper Elementary (5th/6th): Foster critical thinking, advanced problem-solving, and analytical writing. Support students as they navigate complex texts and conceptual math, ensuring they possess a strong academic foundation.
- Manage all aspects of the homeroom experience. Maintain a classroom culture that prizes high standards, kindness, and deep exploration. Successfully bridge the developmental gap, whether helping early learners transition to independent reading or guiding 10-to-12-year-olds as they take ownership of their academic responsibilities.
- Value professional synergy. Work closely with peer teachers, administrators, and specialists to share resources, ideas, and student successes.
- Serve as a proactive, empathetic communicator with parents. Guide families through their child’s respective developmental shifts and clearly articulate student progress
- Embrace and contribute to our close-knit, small-school ecosystem by participating in and often leading school-wide events and cherished traditions.
Requirements
- You have a deep passion for learning and aren't afraid to try innovative approaches to curriculum design.
- Lower Elementary Candidates: You are passionate about phonics, fluency, and comprehension, and you masterfully support a wide range of reading levels within a single classroom. Experience with CKLA, Desmos Math, or the Science of Reading is highly preferred.
- Upper Elementary Candidates: You understand that 10-to-12-year-olds need a meticulous balance of high expectations and empathetic, age-appropriate social-emotional support. Experience with multi-grade classrooms or upper-elementary transitions is a significant plus.
- You possess excellent interpersonal skills and appreciate the beauty of working in a highly collaborative faculty environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (or a closely related field) is required.
