Job Description:

Budget title: Division I Coaching Assistant (SL-1)

Salary: $10,000 (part-time, temporary)

Binghamton University is a NCAA Division I institution in the America East Conference, located in Binghamton, NY with 22 intercollegiate athletic teams. Binghamton University is currently seeking a Head Cheer Coach.

Responsibilities include:

Schedule and oversee all aspects of the program, including tryouts, practices, on and off-campus appearances, fundraising, home game performances and travel to post season games/tournaments. All responsibilities must be completed in accordance with University, NCAA and America East Conference rules and regulations.

Cheer Coach will supervise the team members and provide assistance to the External Affairs office in scheduling off-campus and event appearances for the squad and/or the Mascot.

The Cheer Coach is expected to work closely with the External Affairs team members on all Athletic promotions and events both on and off campus.

Provide leadership and direction to the team to prepare for basketball season. Develop pre-game, in-game and baseline routines. Work with other spirit squads (Dance, Kickline, Pep Band & student body) leadership to develop chants/cheers with a focus on starting/maintaining "traditions". Document and track uniform distribution. Provide a safe and organized practice plan in accordance with the USA Cheer (formerly AACCA) guidelines. Create an atmosphere to promote a positive experience for team members. Maintain good team morale and strive for a mutual respect between coach and members. Participate in at least one (1) community service project/event.

Season: Men's/Women's Basketball. Tryouts are conducted during the first or second week of the fall academic semester. Team practices (1-2X per week) beginning late August. Games begin first week of November and run through Conference playoffs/NCAA in March. Team returns for 1-2 games over the winter break (mid-December through mid-January).

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree
• 3-5 years coaching experience
• First Aid / CPR Certifications
• Ability to work evening and weekend hours

Preferred:

• Collegiate Cheerleading Experience
• Tumbling/Gymnastics Background
• USA Cheer (formerly AACCA) National Safety Certification
