Job Description
The Hope College Athletic Department is seeking a Christ-centered, inspirational leader to serve as the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Tennis programs.
At Hope College, athletics is more than just competition-it is a vital environment for transformation of lives. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of directing, coaching, and administering two (Men's and Women's) competitive tennis programs. The ideal candidate will provide transformational experiences for student-athletes and promote academic success and competitive excellence in the program.
This position offers flexible scheduling options to accommodate both business operational needs and candidate availability. The final employment classification (full-time or part-time) will be determined during the selection process in mutual agreement between the candidate and hiring manager based on current departmental needs and the candidate's preferences.
In either case, this will be a 12-month position with schedule flexibility when students are not on campus. A full-time position will include a benefits package and will have shared responsibilities between the Athletics Department and the Tennis Center on campus. A part-time position will not be benefit eligible and the work will be focused solely on coaching the Hope College Division III Men's and Women's Tennis Programs as outlined in this job description.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership
- Mentor Student-Athletes: Foster a team culture rooted in the philosophy of Division III athletics at Hope College.
- Character Development: Model and teach sportsmanship, integrity, humility, and accountability both on and off the court.
- Competitive Excellence: Lead a successful Division III Tennis program that yields post-season opportunities and wins
2. Program Management & Coaching
- Technical Instruction: Plan, organize, and execute all practices, strategy sessions, and match preparations for both the men's and women's teams.
- Game Administration: Oversee match scheduling, travel logistics, equipment inventory, and budget management in alignment with athletic department policies.
- Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to all institutional, conference, and national governing body rules and regulations.
3. Recruitment & Retention
- Recruiting: Actively identify, evaluate, and recruit high-caliber student-athletes who align with the academic and athletic rigor of the college.
- Roster Management: Meet annual roster size goals for both teams while maintaining high retention rates through excellent student-athlete care.
4. Academic & Holistic Excellence
- Academic Accountability: Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring they maintain eligibility and make progress toward graduation.
- Campus Collaboration: Work closely with key campus stakeholders, such as admissions, financial aid, student formation, campus ministries and faculty, to support the holistic well-being of the student-athletes.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of tennis coaching experience (collegiate level preferred) or significant collegiate/professional playing experience.
- Commitment to the character and goals of a liberal arts college with a Christian perspective
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Physical Demands
